Game Thread 7/8: Phillies at Pirates

Prepare thy brooms

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at Pittsburgh Pirates Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Last night’s win brought the Phillies’ season record against the Pirates to a sterling 6-0.

In this afternoon’s game they’ll try to convert back-to-back sweeps of Pittsburgh while aiming for their seventh straight victory.

The standings look the same as they did after Friday night’s dismantling with the Phils and Braves tied atop the NL East.

Drew Anderson will make his 2018 season and MLB starting pitching debuts today, taking the place of the injured Vince Velasquez. In ten starts for triple-A Lehigh Valley this season, Anderson has thrown 52 innings and carries a 4.15 ERA. He sports a 7.1 K/9 and 2.4 BB/9.

Gabe Kapler has also decided to shake up the lineup a bit, bumping Andrew Knapp to the leadoff spot while Cesar Hernandez rests his foot for the second straight day. Per’s Phillies beat writer Todd Zolecki, and confirmed through Elias Sports, it is the first time in the live-ball era that a catcher will hit leadoff for the Phils.
