The annual Player’s Weekend is near and that means more jerseys for MLB to sell the ability for players to show their personalities a little more by being allowed to use nicknames on their jerseys. In case you haven’t seen them yet, here are some shots of what the Phillies’ version looks like.

Here is the list of nicknames that the #Phillies will have on the back of their jerseys during the 2nd annual Players’ Weekend, August 24th-August 26th. Also the first look at the uniforms, at least from the back; Bottom left corner #96 “Bigger Fella” is Tommy Hunter #BeBold pic.twitter.com/1qEpO2p4c4

Turns out the Phillies Players Weekend hat is bright red and neon blue instead of maroon and powder blue. Similar colors to last year. Online version > the actual one. pic.twitter.com/nTi2uF82Ii

Unfortunately for all of us, they will not be mimicking the local Little League team that went to the Little League World Series a few years ago, as that would have been sweet.
As you can see from some of the nicknames, the personalities on the team are coming through. Names like “Big Fella”, “Bigger Fella”, “Compa F and G” and “Torito” means that these aren’t just robots on the field. They can have some fun too! Of course, the less said about the origins of Austin Davis’ nickname (Big Fudge), the better. We can also hope together that manager Gabe Kapler trolls the entire world by wearing a jersey that says “Coconut Oil” on his back. That might send Howard Eskin into some sort of heart failure.
Anyway, for this week’s suggestion, it is this: what would be your nicknames for the players? Now, this is me hoping that you will keep it civil, as there is no need for profanity, name calling, etc. The names can be humorous, yes, even ironic. But please refrain from names that would be insulting to someone. Put it this way: if you have to wonder whether or not it should be posted, don’t post it.
As always, enjoy and happy writing!
