Phillies MLR 8/20/18: Alec Bohm returns from the DL, Jose Pujols crushes 21st HR

Phillies Minor League Roundup for 8/20/18

MLB: Colorado Rockies at Philadelphia Phillies Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Reading 7, Harrisburg 6

Felix Paulino - 5.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, 7 GB, 4 FB
Malquin Canelo - 3 for 4, 2 R, 2B, BB, SB
Cornelius Randolph - 2 for 5, R, RBI, SB
Adam Haseley - 1 for 4, R, BB, K
Austin Listi - 1 for 3, R, RBI, 2 BB, K
Deivi Grullon - 0 for 5
Jose Pujols - 2 for 4, HR, 4 RBI, BB, K

Things got very dicey after Felix Paulino left the game with Josh Tols giving up a run in the 7th and Edgar Garcia 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th. Jose Pujols is still very much adjusting to the Eastern League (.250/.321/.458), but he did manage to hit his 3rd AA homer last night. It was his 21st overall on the season. This was only the second game this season in which Deivi Grullon has gone 0 for 5. He still holds a .287/.323/.551 line with 21 homers. Malquin Canelo stole his 21st base and Cornelius Randolph added his 3rd.

Lexington 6, Lakewood 5 (10 innings)

Will Stewart - 5 IP, 3 H, 3 R, 3 ER, BB, 4 K, WP, 2 HBP, 8 GB, 1 FB
Matt Vierling - 2 for 5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
Simon Muzziotti - 0 for 5, K
Jake Scheiner - 1 for 3, R, BB, K, HBP
Rodolfo Duran - 1 for 5, R, K (throwing error)
Jhailyn Ortiz - 1 for 5, R, 2B, 2 K
Nick Maton - 1 for 3, RBI, BB
Madison Stokes - 2 for 4, 2 RBI
Jose Antequera - 0 for 4, 2 K
Josh Stephen - 1 for 4, R

Will Stewart is doing that thing where he is alternating good and bad starts. This week’s was not his best, though he did leave with a 5-4 lead. A combo of reliever Luis Cedeno and a Rodolfo Duran error lead to 2 runs in the top of the 6th to relinquish the lead. Lakewood would tie it back up to force extra innings, but Zach Warren gave up the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th. Matt Vierling continues to impress in his first professional season. Across two levels now he is slashing .330/.364/.513 with 6 HR and 5 SB. He was the Phillies 5th round pick in the 2018 draft.

State College 3, Williamsport 0 (GM1 of DH)
State College 5, Williamsport 4 (GM2 of DH, 8 innings)

James McArthur - 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 K, 4 GB, 2 FB
Alec Bohm - 0 for 4, K (throwing and fielding error)
Ben Aklinski - 3 for 8, R, 3B, 3 K
Jake Holmes - 2 for 7, BB, CS
Ben Pelletier - 1 for 8, 2 K
Danny Mayer - 0 for 3, BB, K
Brayan Gonzalez - 0 for 8, 6 K
Jonathan Guzman - 1 for 4, K (two throwing errors)
Lenin Rodriguez - 1 for 4, K
Matt Kroon - 0 for 3, K
Keudy Bocio - 1 for 3
Edwin Rodriguez - 1 for 4, R, K
Seth Lancaster - 2 for 3, 2 R, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, BB
Jesse Wilkening - 1 for 3, RBI, BB
Jesus Henriquez - 0 for 3, K

Williamsport loses the double-header and fall to 24-33 in the standings. Manuel Silva’s lone mistake came via a 3-run HR in the first inning, but otherwise he was quite good. The 19 year old lefty has a 3.23 ERA in 47.1 innings with 44 strikeouts to 22 walks. James McArthur, the Phillies 2018 12th round pick, has impressive numbers as well since going pro. He has a 0.61 ERA with 33 strikeouts to 10 walks in 29.1 innings pitched. Seth Lancaster blasted his first professional HR in the second game of the doubleheader. The 2018 8th round pick is hitting a disappointing .204/.323/.324 in 108 at-bats this season.
