Phillies Minor League Roundup for 8/23/18

Lehigh Valley 3, Syracuse 2

Enyel De Los Santos - 6 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HBP, 6 GB, 4 FB
J.P. Crawford - 0 for 4, K (fielding error)
Mitch Walding - 1 for 2, R, 2B, RBI, BB, SB, HBP (throwing error)
Joey Meneses - 1 for 4, R, RBI
Dylan Cozens - 1 for 4, K, SB
Aaron Altherr - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, K

It’s been interesting to see Enyel De Lo Santos down the strech. He’s been largely just as effective as he was the first half of the season, but lately he’s seen his strikeout totals dip down. Control still remains an issue as well as he keeps racking up walks. His own throwing error lead to his only run allowed last night. Anyway, his ERA is at a very comfortable 2.43 and could be a great addition to the bullpen when rosters expand in September. Lehigh Valley broke a 1-1 tie with a 2-run 8th inning to take the lead. J.P. Crawford is still struggling and I’m going to be exhausted of defending him by season’s end.

Reading 8, Trenton 3

Harold Arauz - 5.1 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 8 K, HR, 6 GB, 2 FB (throwing error)
Adam Haseley - 2 for 5, RBI, K
Pedro Florimon - 0 for 4, BB, 3 K
Cornelius Randolph - 1 for 3, R, 2B, RBI, BB, HBP
Darick Hall - 0 for 4, BB, 2 K
Jose Pujols - 1 for 2, 2 R, 2B, 2 BB
Austin Listi - 2 for 3, 3 R, 2B, HR, 4 RBI, BB
Malquin Canelo - 2 for 4, R, RBI, K, SB

Harold Arauz is back down to Reading after a two-start cameo with Lehigh Valley last week. He tied his season-high in strikeouts last night and picked up his 9th AA win. I’m not entirely convinced Arauz can be anything other than a 5th starter in the big leagues given his stuff (I don’t think it will play up in the bullpen). The Fightin’s offense went off last night, including Austin Listi 9th HR with Reading this season and 18th overall. Cornelius Randolph is hitting the ball well again with a .333 average in his last 10 games. Since July 1st he is slashing .321/.402/.451 in 185 PA with 4 homeruns. Who knows if any of this holds up as the season winds down, but it’s encouraging after his dreadful start.

Dunedin 4, Clearwater 1

Adonis Medina - 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, HR, 5 GB, 7 FB
Daniel Brito - 1 for 3, BB, K
Arquimedes Gamboa - 1 for 4, 3B, RBI, 2 K
Mickey Moniak - 0 for 4
Henri Lartigue - 0 for 4
Edgar Cabral - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Grenny Cumana - 0 for 3
Raul Rivas - 1 for 3, R, K
Kevin Markham - 1 for 3

Adonis Medina takes the loss, his 4th of the season. He ERA, however, dips to 4.31. His lone mistake came via a 2-run HR he gave up in the 3rd inning. The Thresher offense compiled just 5 hits and went 1 for 5 with RISP.

Lakewood 4, Hickory 1

Gustavo Armas - 8 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 8 K, HR, 6 GB, 6 FB
Matt Vierling - 1 for 4, R, 2B
Simon Muzziotti - 1 for 4, R
Jake Scheiner - 2 for 4, 2 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K
Rodolfo Duran - 0 for 4, 2 K (passed ball)
Jhailyn Ortiz - 0 for 4, 2 K
Nick Maton - 1 for 4, R, K
Madison Stokes - 2 for 4, R, 2 2B, K
Jose Antequera - 0 for 2, RBI, 2 K
Colby Fitch - 1 for 3, RBI, 2 K

Gustavo Armas puts up one of the best starts by a Phillies minor league pitcher this year. His lone hit (the HR) was given up in the bottom of the 2nd, otherwise he was perfect. Zach Warren came on in relief and struck out the side to save his 13th game. Jake Scheiner puts up another multi-hit game. It’s curious that the 23 year old 3B hasn’t been promoted to High-A ball despite the .293/.362/.462 slash with 11 homers through 420 at-bats. He could easily be splitting time with Luke Williams there.

Williamsport 3, Batavia 2 (GM1 of DH, 7 innings)
Batavia 1, Williamsport 0 (GM2 of DH, 7 innings, makeup of 6/23 ppd)

Colton Eastman - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 5 K, 1 GB, 0 FB
Tyler Carr - 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 K, 3 GB, 2 FB
Ben Aklinski - 0 for 7, 3 K
Rafael Marchan - 1 for 3, R
Alec Bohm - 1 for 6, R, 2B, RBI
Ben Pelletier - 1 for 3, 2B, 2 RBI, K
Jake Holmes - 0 for 2, BB, K, SB (throwing error)
Edwin Rodriguez - 0 for 2, BB
Jonathan Guzman - 0 for 3, 2 BB, K
Seth Lancaster - 0 for 3, 3 K
Jesus Henriquez - 1 for 3, R, K
Danny Mayer - 1 for 3, 2B, K
Brayan Gonzalez - 1 for 3, K
Jesse Wilkening - 0 for 3, 2 K
Lenin Rodriguez - 0 for 3
Matt Kroon - 0 for 3, 2 K
Keudy Bocio - 0 for 3
