It has been an interesting Phillies season to say the least.
Despite all that’s happened — all the punches to the gut, all the big victories, the inconsistent offense, starting pitching (not named Aaron Nola), bullpen and terrible defense — the Phils are still very much alive to reach the postseason.
They’re just three games behind the Braves in the NL East heading into their weekend series with the Chicago Cubs in Philadelphia (thank you for beating Atlanta, the Cubs!), and yet it doesn’t feel like the playoffs are a reasonable goal, given how the team has played.
On Episode 208 of “Hittin’ Season,” host John Stolnis takes a look at three big things he’s learned while watching this 2018 Phillies team. Also, Kevin Cooney, former Phils beat writer who is writing Phillies pieces for Forbes, stops by to talk about the Phils fading playoff chances, what’s really hurting the team and whether there is anything they can do to fix it.
Also on the podcast, a look at a great piece by Eno Sarris of The Athletic about pitching metrics and how they affect Aaron Nola’s Cy Young case, and Sixto Sanchez will be playing in the Arizona Fall League. Who else will be joining him?
