Jake Arrieta is the only member of the Phillies rotation that didn’t take part in their four-game sweep of the Marlins that was completed Sunday afternoon. Now, away from their home park (where they’re 38-18) and a weekend full of feelings, the Phillies head out on the road (where they’re 25-30) to the desert, where Arrieta will face the Diamondbacks in some late night*, west coast baseball.
Arrieta has a 3.51 career ERA at Chase Field, which is among the perfectly serviceable, middle-of-the-pack stadium ERAs he had produced over the years (Let’s hope he doesn’t have to pitch in the Rogers Centre later this month). Nobody in Arizona’s starting nine seems to have his number—even the terrifying Paul Goldschmidt has only tagged him for one home run in 20 AB. Meanwhile, the Phillies have a pretty good thing going where they let solid pitching starts stand up by four or five crushing home runs a game. Let’s see more of that tonight.
