Game Thread 9/9: Phillies at Mets

For a minute, it looked like the Phillies playing the Mets might not be a waking nightmare that lasts three entire days. And then last night’s game came around.

Sigh.

But it’s baseball. It’s Phillies baseball. I love baseball AND Phillies baseball, though sometimes at different frequencies. And today they have the chance to take the series with the Mets, which would feel like a tremendous triumph if they could pull it off.

Look at me, not saying anything about this lineup. Because it doesn’t matter in the end. They’ve fielded weirder lineups and gotten the win, and put out “conventional” lineups and gotten smacked around. Except for a few positions, these lineups seem to be built on daily matchups and very specific data, so expecting consistency is pointless. These are the Phillies, and I’ve gotta love them regardless.

I’m sure by the time I record the Hittin’ Season podcast with Justin and John tonight, I’ll feel exactly the same way and won’t continue to get more and more unhinged as the season barrels to a close!!
