Limits to who can be traded because of league rules

I know there use to be rules about trading draft picks as well as those recently drafted (use to be one of the main reason for PTBN was waiting for the young player to be eligible). But I'm not exactly sure what the rules are now - could someone help me with a reference for that? More specifically, is there any such rules about signing a player and then trading him immediately? If someone has an example of that, please let me know.

The reason I'm asking and specifically posting here is a discussion I was involved in recently:

Could the Angels and Phillies work a deal where the Philles sign Harper and then immediately trade him for Trout?

-- LAA would keep their draft pick, get PHI to pay part of signing bonus, now have a player signed for a lower term

-- PHI would get the player they want more for 2 reasonable years salarywise and could start working a longterm deal

First of all, IM NOT SAYING THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN. I'm wondering if it could.

Of course if it could, then the discussion is should they and who/what else would need to be involved .
