Baker, Girardi, Showalter to interview for manager’s job this week

It’s job hunting season

It’s mid-October and, for the 26 teams that aren’t still in the playoffs, that means housekeeping. The Phillies, one of eight teams to have a managerial vacancy in the wake of Gabe Kapler’s relief last week, will begin their formal interview process in earnest Monday.

Dusty Baker, Joe Girardi, and Buck Showalter have a combined 53 years of managerial experience and, despite a relatively scant two pennants and one World Series title between them as managers, all carry a good amount of respect within the league.

It’s possible the breadth of the Phillies’ search begins and ends with this trio, but they also may open the search to more candidates in the coming days and weeks.

The hunt is on.
