Harrison, 32, missed most of last season with the Tigers with a hamstring injury and was released in Aug. He hit .175/.218/.263 in 36 games.
Harrison will probably serve as depth in case of injury, but with the addition of an extra roster spot this year, he’ll get a very real shot at making the team.
Let’s not pretend this is an earth shattering move. Harrison is not what he once was. His past 3 wRC+: 104, 77, 22. The chances that he is just done are actually quite high.
It’s a nice move if he’s ok with spending time in the minors, but expecting anything remotely productive from him is a fool’s wish.
