Phillies Minor League Roundup for 5/13 - 5/14/19

MLB: Colorado Rockies at Philadelphia Phillies Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Today’s Probables:

LHV: JoJo Romero
REA: Bailey Falter
CLR: Anthony Requena
LWD: Tyler McKay

Durham 10, Lehigh Valley 3 (May 14)

Tyler Viza - 5.1 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 3 ER, 5 K, 2 HBP, 3 GB, 3 FB
Kyle Dohy - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, 4 K
Malquin Canelo - 2 for 4, 2B, K
Lane Adams - 3 for 4, R, RBI, K
Deivy Grullon - 1 for 3, RBI, BB, K (passed ball)
Mitch Walding - 0 for 3, BB, K (fielding error)

Lehigh Valley’s struggles continue as they drop their 7th straight game and fall 1.5 games back of first place in the division. Tyler Viza fell to 0-2. Despite the two-hit game, Canelo has struggled recently batting .150 in his last 10 games. Deivy Grullon keeps on hitting and getting on base as his slash sits at .354/.409/.556 in 99 at-bats. After an objectively terrible start to his AAA career, Kyle Dohy has settled down in his last 5.1 innings of 3 hit, 0 run ball with 4 walks to 10 strikeouts.

New Hampshire 4, Reading 0 (May 14, GM1 of DH, 7 innings)
Reading 8, New Hampshire 1 (May 14, GM2 of DH, 7 innings, makeup of 4/9 ppd)

Adonis Medina - 4.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 3 ER, BB, 4 K, 2 HBP, 7 GB, 1 FB
David Parkinson - 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 5 K, 6 GB, 3 FB
JD Hammer - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 K
Luke Williams - 0 for 3, R, RBI, 3 BB, 2 K, HBP (fielding error)
Adam Haseley - 1 for 7, R, RBI, K
Austin Listi - 2 for 7, R, 2B, 2 RBI, K
Darick Hall - 2 for 7, R, 2 2B, RBI
Cornelius Randolph - 2 for 6, R, 2B, 2 RBI, BB, K
Jose Gomez - 0 for 2, BB
Josh Stephen - 0 for 2
Arquimedes Gamboa - 0 for 3, R, BB

You really wish Adonis Medina was having the same results as David Parkinson this season, but that hasn’t quite happened. Medina has struggled going: 28 IP, 30 H, 17 ER, 11 BB and 19 K. The offense in GM1 was collectively two-hit and had just one runner in scoring position all game. They did slightly better in GM2 with six hits in addition to working six walks. Cornelius Randolph has the highest OPS on the team among players with 70+ at-bats with .755. That’s the story of the Reading offense this season.

Clearwater 7, Lakeland 4 (May 13)
Clearwater 6, Lakeland 3 (May 14)

Damon Jones - 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 ER, BB, 9 K, WP, 4 GB, 1 FB (pickoff error)
Colton Eastman - 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 7 GB, 5 FB
Simon Muzziotti - 3 for 9, 2 R, 2B, RBI, CS
Alec Bohm - 5 for 9, 2 R, 2 2B, HR, 3 RBI, K, CS
Matt Vierling - 2 for 8, R, BB
Madison Stokes - 3 for 9, 2 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 K
Nick Maton - 6 for 9, 2 R, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, SB
Jhailyn Ortiz - 0 for 8, BB, 6 K
Colby Fitch - 1 for 3, RBI, K, HBP
Edgar Cabral - 2 for 8, R, 2B, RBI, 3 K (throwing error)
Daniel Brito - 3 for 5, 3 R, 2B, RBI, BB (throwing error)
Rodolfo Duran - 2 for 4, 2B

Alec Bohm seems to be handling High-A ball quite well, huh? He’s only had 55 at-bats there, but there are already rumors swirling around that he may be on the move to AA before we know it. The 22 year old 3rd baseman is hitting .345/.373/.564 with 2 HR since being promoted. Bohm’s ascension seems to have lit a fire under almost the entire offense with Muzziotti, Stokes and Maton on hot streaks as well. Stokes hit his 4th HR of the season and Maton his 3rd, both in last night’s game. Maton’s line is participarly impressive with a .324/.405/.459 slash with the aforementioned 3 homers and 6 stolen bases. Damon Jones 52 strikeouts in 35.1 innings is tied for 8th most in all of minor league baseball.

Lakewood, Greensboro (May 13, ppd due to rain)
Lakewood 4, Hagerstown 3 (May 14)

Ethan Lindow - 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER 8 K, 3 GB, 2 FB
Jonathan Guzman - 0 for 3, 2 R, BB, K
Scott Kingery - 1 for 3 (fielding error)
Luis Garcia - 1 for 1, R
Matt Kroon - 2 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 K (throwing error)
Abraham Gutierrez - 0 for 3, RBI, K (two passed balls)
Malvin Matos - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Ben Pelletier - 0 for 3, 2 K (fielding error and outfield assist, home)
Jack Conley - 0 for 2, BB
Carlos De La Cruz - 2 for 3
Jake Holmes - 0 for 3, K

Poor Ethan Lindow pitched a great game, but didn’t get to come away with a win. A 1st inning passed ball was the first unearned run and a Scott Kingery error in the 3rd led to the second. Lindow has a 2.16 ERA in 33.1 innings with 40 strikeouts to 8 walks. Matt Kroon played hero, hitting a three-run HR in the 8th inning to give Lakewood the lead. It was his 1st long-ball of the season. Scott Kingery played 7 innings at shortstop before being replaced by Luis Garcia in the 8th.
