Phillies Minor League Roundup for 5/1/19

MLB: Spring Training-Pittsburgh Pirates at Philadelphia Phillies Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Today’s Probables:

Syracuse 8, Lehigh Valley 2

Tyler Viza - 4.1 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 1 ER, BB, 4 K, 6 GB, 2 FB
Austin Davis - 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 BB, 2 K, (pickoff error)
Dylan Cozens - 0 for 3, 3 K
Malquin Canelo - 0 for 4
Mitch Walding - 1 for 2, BB

Lehigh Valley has had no chance against this Syracuse lineup, who are just littered with former major leaguers like Carlos Gomez, Danny Espinosa, Rajai Davis, Gregor Blanco and Adeiny Hechavarria. Tyler Viza took his first loss, but was the victim to poor defense behind him. Dylan Cozens has struck out 38 times in 69 at-bats, but has a .174 average and .848 OPS because: Baseball.

Reading 7, Harrisburg 4

Bailey Falter - 5 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 5 K, 6 GB, 2 FB
Luke Leftwich - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K
Mickey Moniak - 1 for 5, 2B
Luke Williams - 2 for 4, 2 R, K, SB
Adam Haseley - 2 for 5, 2 R, 2B
Austin Listi - 1 for 2, R, RBI, 2 BB (throwing error)
Darick Hall - 2 for 3, 2 R, HR, 3 RBI, K, HBP
Cornelius Randolph - 1 for 4, RBI, K (outfield assist, home)

Bailey Falter put together his best start of the season to pick up his 2nd victory. He has a 2.66 ERA with 17 strikeouts to 5 walks in 20.1 innings. Reliever Luke Leftwich has yet to give up a run this year in 14.2 innings. He has 22 strikeouts in that span. Darick Hall mashed his 4th HR of the year, a three-run blast in the 1st inning. Adam Haseley returned to the lineup after a couple days off with a multi-hit effort. Also returning, but from the IL, Cornelius Randolph.

Clearwater, Fort Myers (ppd due to rain, makeup on 5/1)

West Virginia 2, Lakewood 1

Ethan Lindow - 4.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, BB, 5 K, HBP, 5 GB, 3 FB
Rafael Marchan - 1 for 4, RBI (catcher interference error, passed ball)
Malvin Matos - 0 for 3, BB, K
Ben Pelletier - 1 for 4, K
Carlos De La Cruz - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K (fielding error)
Luis Garcia - 0 for 3, 2 K (fielding error)
Cole Stobbe - 1 for 3, K, CS
Jonathan Guzman - 0 for 3, K

Another solid Ethan Lindow outing, but bad defense dooms the Blue Claws. A De La Cruz fielding error in the 6th inning cost them an unearned run, as well as a Marchan catcher interference in the 9th to put West Virginia ahead. Lakewood actually outhit WV 6-4 and struckout 16 WV batters. Luis Garcia’s error was his 9th of the season. Rafael Marchan extended his hitting streak to four games and is batting .333 in his last 10.
