Phillies MLR: Learn to appreciate Francisco Morales

Phillies Minor League Roundup for 6/26/19

MLB: New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies Bill Streicher-USA TODAY Sports

Today’s Probables:

LHV: TBD
REA: JoJo Romero
CLR: Julian Garcia
LWD: Kevin Gowdy
WIL: Carlos Francisco

Rochester 19, Lehigh Valley 6

Tyler Viza - 4.1 IP, 10 H, 9 R, 5 ER, BB, 6 K, HR, 7 GB, 1 FB
Jan Hernandez - 0 for 2, RBI, 2 BB, K
Mitch Walding - 1 for 1, R
Deivy Grullon - 2 for 3, R, 2 BB
Nick Williams - 4 for 5, R, 2B, RBI, K
Austin Listi - 0 for 5
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 3 K

19 runs is a lot to give up, right? Tyler Viza was bad, though he wasn’t exactly helped by the defense behind him (two fielding errors). Nick Williams has hit the ball well since being sent back to AAA. Williams has hit in all 10 games he’s played in and sports a .419/.444/.605 slash with 1 HR and 11 strikeouts to 1 walk. Some things don’t change I guess. Austin Listi saw his 5-game hitting streak with the Ironpigs come to an end.

Trenton 7, Reading 6

Adonis Medina - 5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 2 ER, BB, 4 K, 2 WP, 6 GB, 6 FB
Josh Stephen - 1 for 4, R, 3B, RBI, BB, K
Adam Haseley - 2 for 5, 2 R, 3B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
Mickey Moniak - 2 for 3, 3B, RBI, 2 BB, 2 SB
Darick Hall - 0 for 4, BB, 3 K, SB
Cornelius Randolph - 0 for 5, 2 K
Luke Williams - 0 for 3, R, BB, SB
Jose Gomez - 2 for 4, HR, K (throwing error)

Adonis Medina pitched fairly well, but a costly Jose Gomez error and Austin Bossart passed ball led to some unearned runs. Medina has a 4.02 ERA with 45 K’s to 25 BB’s in 65 innings this season. Adam Haseley showing off that power including one of four triples featured in the game. On top of stealing bases 8 and 9 on the season, Mickey Moniak has been outstanding in the month of June, slashing .293/.377/.489 with 20 strikeouts to 12 walks in 106 plate appearances. Aaron Brown was responsible for giving up the walk-off run in the bottom of the 9th in a 6-6 tie game.

Lakeland 2, Clearwater 1

Andrew Brown - 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, WP, 9 GB, 0 FB
Nick Maton - 0 for 4, 3 K
Simon Muzziotti - 1 for 4, R, 2B
Jhailyn Ortiz - 0 for 3, BB, K
Madison Stokes - 0 for 4, 4 K
Matt Vierling - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI, K
Rodolfo Duran - 0 for 3 (passed ball)
Daniel Brito - 0 for 2, BB

It was a nice start for Andrew Brown who hasn’t been all that great this season (6.67 ERA). The bullpen mostly held it together until the bottom of the 9th when Keylan Killgore allowed runners to reach 2nd and 3rd with two outs. He was replaced by Tyler Carr to get the final out, but instead allowed a walk-off single to lose the game.

Delmarva 3, Lakewood 1

Francisco Morales - 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 5 K, HR, 6 GB, 2 FB
Victor Santos - 3 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 3 K, HBP, 4 GB, 0 FB
Jonathan Guzman - 0 for 4, K
Abraham Gutierrez - 0 for 4, 2 K
Carlos De La Cruz - 0 for 2, 2 BB, 2 K
Cole Stobbe - 0 for 2, 2 BB (missed catch error)
Malvin Matos - 0 for 4, K
Jake Holmes - 0 for 4, 2 K
Ben Pelletier - 1 for 3, HR
Yerwin Trejo - 0 for 2, BB, K, SB

If you haven’t noticed, Francisco Morales has been very good as of late. In his last 8 appearances he has gone: 28 IP, 16 H, 6 ER, 12 BB, 44 K. He is a very good prospect that will hopefully be coming into his own. It isn’t crazy to think a ceiling of #2 starter or a very good #3 isn’t out of the question if he harnesses his command and develops his changeup. He got his 4th loss of the season in this one because the only run/hit of the game was produced in the 7th inning via Ben Pelletier (7).

Auburn 5, Williamsport 2

Gustavo Armas - 4 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 K, HR, 3 GB, 4 FB
Junior Tejada - 3 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, HR, HBP, 3 GB, 3 FB
Corbin Williams - 0 for 4, K
Hunter Markwardt - 1 for 4, K
Logan Simmons - 1 for 4, HR, K
Juan Aparicio - 1 for 4, K (passed ball)
Nick Matera - 2 for 4, HR
Edgar Made - 0 for 4, K
DJ Stewart - 1 for 4
Hunter Hearn - 1 for 4, 2B
Christian Valerio - 0 for 3, K

A four-run 2nd inning doomed the Crosscutters and Gustavo Armas last night. The offense wasn’t very opportunistic, going 0 for 5 with RISP and leaving 6 on base. Logan Simmons hit his 2nd HR of the season and Nick Matera hit his first professional homer.

GCL Phillies West 5, GCL Phillies East 0

I usually don’t discuss the GCL games, but I’ll note today that the West team no-hit the East in yesterday’s contest. Which is both amazing and kinda sad at the same time? Brandon Ramey, Hsin-Chieh Lin, Brian Marconi and Tyler Burch combined for the no-hitter striking out 15 Phillies.
