Today’s Probables:
LHV: Ranger Suarez
REA: Bailey Falter
CLR: Andrew Brown
LWD: TBD
Pawtucket 4, Lehigh Valley 1
Tyler Viza - 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 7 K, HBP, 9 GB, 3 FB
Kyle Dohy - 1 IP, 2 H, 3 R, 1 ER, BB, 2 K
Adam Haseley - 2 for 5, K
Deivy Grullon - 0 for 3, BB
Mitch Walding - 1 for 3, R, BB, 2 K
The Iron Pigs waste a good start from Tyler Viza (!!!) via an implosion from Kyle Dohy in the 8th and the offense going 1 for 7 with RISP (despite out-hitting the opp. 8-5). Adam Haseley likely played his last minor league game for the time being because it appears he will be called up to the majors today after Andrew McCutchen’s apparent knee injury. It has been quite the ascent for Haseley who began the year in AA. His line across both levels of competition was .275/.358/.466 with 7 HR and 5 SB this season.
Richmond 4, Reading 2
David Parkinson - 5.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 BB, 3 K, HR, WP, 4 GB, 6 FB
Arquimedes Gamboa - 0 for 4, 3 K
Mickey Moniak - 1 for 4, 2B, RBI, K
Cornelius Randolph - 0 for 2, 2 BB
Austin Listi - 0 for 4, K
Luke Williams - 0 for 4, K
Grenny Cumana - 3 for 4, R, 2B, CS
Jose Gomez - 2 for 4, R
David Parkinson had been on a nice little streak prior to yesterday’s game. This was the first time in 4 previous starts that he had given up more than 2 earned runs in a game. He took his 3rd loss of the season, but still has a modest 3.24 ERA. The offense was a bit punchless, combining for just 6 hits and going 1 for 6 with RISP. This offense is a bit sadder without Adam Haseley in it.
Clearwater 5, Jupiter 4
Anthony Requena - 5.1 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, HR, WP, HBP, 9 GB, 1 FB (pickoff error)
Simon Muzziotti - 2 for 4, R, 2B, SB
Jhailyn Ortiz - 1 for 4, R, RBI, K
Matt Vierling - 0 for 2, RBI, BB, K
Madison Stokes - 0 for 4, R, K
Matt Kroon - 2 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Rodolfo Duran - 0 for 4, K (passed ball)
Ben Aklinski - 0 for 4, 3 K
Daniel Brito - 1 for 4, HR, 2 K
Dalton Guthrie - 2 for 3, R, BB (fielding error)
Anthony Requena picks up his 4th win of the season despite the uneven game (he carries a 4.39 ERA with 50 K to 19 BB in 53.1 IP). Simon Muzziotti returns to the lineup after a brief stint on the DL, which is very good because he is one of just a few actually fun prospects. He hit his 9th double and stole his 8th base in the game. Daniel Brito showing off a little power with his 2nd HR of the season.
Lakewood 3, Hagerstown 2 (10 innings)
Kevin Gowdy - 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 2 K, 2 WP, 5 GB, 2 FB
James McArthur - 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 GB, 1 FB (pickoff error)
JJonathan Guzman - 2 for 4, R, 2B, K
Rafael Marchan - 0 for 3, BB, 3 K
Luis Garcia - 0 for 3, BB, K
Luke Miller - 0 for 2, 2 BB, 2 K
Malvin Matos - 0 for 3, 3 K
Ben Pelletier - 1 for 4, HR, K
Carlos De La Cruz - 0 for 4, R, 2 K
Jake Holmes - 0 for 1, 2 BB
Cole Stobbe - 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Hey, we got encouraging Kevin Gowdy this go around! It’s been hit or miss for the former 2nd round pick as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. In his first season back (since 2016 mind you) he has a 4.10 ERA with 21 K to 26 BB in 26.1 IP. Hopefully the velocity and good outings keep on coming along. Ben Pelletier’s 2nd inning solo HR (6) was the go-ahead run for most of the game before James McArthur gave up the tying run in a 2-1 game in the top of the 8th. In the bottom of the 10th, Cole Stobbe would deliver the eventual walk-off RBI single to win the game. Jonathan Guzman has been hitting the ball well lately with a .311 batting average over his last 15 games with 6 stolen bases to boot.
