In one of our biggest celebrations of the Philadelphia Phillies, every week the members of The Good Phight will be issuing one of baseball’s greatest achievements to date: The Good Phil of the Week Award. One MLB player and one MiLB player will receive the award each week and will be able to boast to their teammates that they are, in fact, a Good Phil.
Major League Good Phil of the Week:
This one was an easy choice, though there were a few other stand-out options this week. Maikel Franco had an incredible week, topped off by yesterday’s walk off home run. In three games in the All-Star-shortened week, Franco hit 6-for-10 with a double, two home runs and three RBIs. Although Franco’s overall season has been disappointing, he’s starting to heat up. And a hot Maikel Franco is very dangerous at the plate.
Other Good Phils receiving votes:
Aaron Nola (2), JT Realmuto (2)
Minor League Good Phil of the Week: Bryson Stott
For the first time in almost a month, the MiLB winner is someone other than Alec Bohm. 2019 first round draft pick Bryson Stott certainly earned this one this week. In the first four games of his professional career, Stott is 6-for-11 with a triple, two home runs and three walks. His first career home run came in his first at bat in the Gulf Coast League. After three games, he was promoted to short-season Williamsport. He collected his second career home run in his first at bat with the Crosscutters. Although the sample size is extremely small, he’s now slashing .545/.667/1.273 in his professional career.
Here are his two home runs:
