Phillies MLR: Mickey Moniak may be...not bad?

Phillies Minor League Roundup for 7/17/19

Gwinnett 6, Lehigh Valley 3

Ramon Rosso - 5 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HBP, 3 GB, 2 FB
Austin Listi - 2 for 5, R, 2B, RBI
Deivy Grullon - 0 for 4, 2 K
Jan Hernandez - 1 for 3, 2 RBI, 2 K

Ramon Rosso’s consistency this season is that he is entirely inconsistent. A 31:18 strikeout to walk ratio in 33.2 innings (in AAA) isn’t entirely good. The command is never there from start to start. Alas, he didn’t even take loss in this one. That honor went to Kyle Dohy who gave up 3 runs in his only innings and saw his ERA rise to 7.20. Grullon has struggled at the plate since returning from the DL. He is just 3 for 17 in his last 4 games. Yada Yada Yada yes, that Austin Listi kid is still doing things.

Reading 8, Binghamton 6 (July 17, GM1 of DH, resumption of suspended 7/16 game)
Reading, Binghamton (July 17, GM2 of DH, ppd due to rain)

JoJo Romero - 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 K, 2 GB, 3 FB
Arquimedes Gamboa - 1 for 5, R, 2B, 2 K
Alec Bohm - 3 for 5, RBI, K, CS
Mickey Moniak - 2 for 4, R, RBI, BB, 2 SB (outfield assist, home)
Josh Stephen - 2 for 3, 2 R, HR, BB, K
Luke Williams - 1 for 4, 2 R, BB, 2 K, SB
Cornelius Randolph - 0 for 1

Its a shame that JoJo Romero’s outing was rain-shortened. He’s been fairly good over his last four appearances: 20 IP, 15 H, 5 ER, 3 BB, 19 K. 20 year old Josh Stephen hit his 5th HR and is slashing .243/.329/.419 on the season. Mickey Moniak continues to improve at the plate and is hitting .270/.327/.441 with 4 HR and 12 SB. It’s alright to be cautiously optimistic with Moniak again.

Bradenton 7, Clearwater 3 (10 innings)

Connor Seabold - 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 5 K, HBP, 6 GB, 2 FB
Simon Muzziotti - 0 for 4, RBI, BB, K, SB
Jhailyn Ortiz - 1 for 5, HR, 3 K
Nick Maton - 0 for 5, 3 K
Matt Vierling - 0 for 4, 2 K (outfield assist, home)
Rodolfo Duran - 0 for 4
Daniel Brito - 3 for 4, R

Connor Seabold looks to be ramping up to mid-season form. In two starts since joining Clearwater after a lengthy IL stint to start the season, he has gone: 9 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, BB, 10 K. Jhailyn Ortiz hit his 16 HR of the season. Believe it or not, this game was tied at 1 entering the 10th inning. The Threshers would add two runs at the top of the inning to make it 3-1. Then the bottom of the inning saw Kyle Arjona give up 2 runs before giving up a walk-off grandslam.

Lakewood 4, Delmarva 0 (6 innings)

Rafi Gonell - 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 3 GB, 3 FB
Jonathan Guzman - 2 for 3, HR, 2 RBI, CS
McCarthy Tatum - 1 for 3, HR, K
Luis Garcia - 1 for 2, 2B, BB
Abraham Gutierrez - 0 for 3, K
Carlos De La Cruz - 1 for 3, R, 2 K, SB
Seth Lancaster - 0 for 3, 2 K
Cole Stobbe - 0 for 1, BB
Malvin Matos - 1 for 2, R, SB

Rafi Gonell rips off his best start of the season, going a season-high 5 innings and tying a season-high in strikeouts. McCarthy Tatum got the scoring started with his 1st HR with Lakewood in the 2nd inning. Jonathan Guzman added his 2nd dinger of the season, a two-run blast in the 5th.
