It was announced on Saturday that the Phillies acquired RHP Mike Morin from the Twins in exchange for cash considerations.
Morin is certainly nothing to gawk at upon first glance. He’s your average, middle of the ‘pen righty who doesn’t blow guys away with his stuff, (4.4 K/9 in 2019) but he makes up for it with his slim BB/9 rate of 0.8.
In 2019, Morin has a 3.18 ERA over 22.2 IP, a 0.97 WHIP, and sports reverse splits.
While he’s certainly no game changer, Morin is a welcome addition to the Phillies’ short-handed bullpen — especially at such a low asking price.
Morin will likely take up a spot on the 25-man roster within the day — meaning that one of the existing bullpen members will either be optioned or DFA’d — depending on the case.
Don’t expect him to make any waves, but Morin is certainly an upgrade from what we’ve fielded in the past.
