Phillies MLR: Bryson Stott and Erik Miller shine for Williamsport

Phillies Minor League Roundup for 8/14/19

MLB: Chicago Cubs at Philadelphia Phillies Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Louisville 2, Lehigh Valley 1

Dan Straily - 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 5 K, HR, 5 GB, 4 FB
Nick Williams - 0 for 3, BB
Deivy Grullon - 0 for 1, 3 BB (missed catch error)
Austin Listi - 1 for 4, K
Malquin Canelo - 2 for 4, 2 K

After a terrible LHV debut, Dan Straily has been a bit better in his last two starts, going: 13 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 12 K. Too bad the offense was kept quiet and were 0 for 7 with RISP. The lone run came from pinch-hitter Jose Pirela in the 9th via his first HR since coming to the Phillies organization.

Erie 5, Reading 4 (10 innings)

Connor Seabold - 6 IP, 7 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, HR, 5 GB, 5 FB
Mickey Moniak - 1 for 5 (outfield assist, home)
Alec Bohm - 2 for 5, R, K
Darick Hall - 1 for 4, R, BB, K
Josh Stephen - 1 for 4, R, BB, K
Nick Maton - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Arquimedes Gamboa - 1 for 3, RBI, BB, K, SB

Connor Seabold remains highly encouraging, but didn’t factor into the decision on this one. The 23 yr old righty has a 2.48 ERA with 41 strikeouts to 8 walks in 36.1 innings across 3 levels this season. Unfortunately, Jeff Singer gave up two runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie the game and Addison Russ gave up the walk-off run in the 10th. The Fightins were held without an extra-base hit and were 2 for 13 with RISP. Bohm continued his hot streak and is hitting .361 in his last 10 games with 4 homers.

Dunedin 6, Clearwater 0

Anthony Requena - 3 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, K, 3 GB, 2 FB
Simon Muzziotti - 1 for 3, BB
Rafael Marchan - 0 for 4, K (throwing error)
Jhailyn Ortiz - 1 for 2, 2B, 2 BB (outfield assist, home)
Daniel Brito - 0 for 3

Anthony Requena is struggling down the stretch. Over his last 5 starts he’s seen his ERA rise from 4.35 to 5.21. Requena still remains an interesting arm in the “could ramp it up in a bullpen role” kind of way. The offense was collectively two-hit and only Jhailyn Ortiz had a good game (way to pick em Jhailyn).

Lakewood 5, Hagerstown 1

Taylor Lehman - 5 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 7 GB, 1 FB
Rafi Gonell - 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K, HBP, 5 GB, 3 FB
Jonathan Guzman - 2 for 5, RBI, K
Malvin Matos - 0 for 5, K
Luis Garcia - 0 for 4, 2 K
Cole Stobbe - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 K, SB (fielding error)
McCarthy Tatum - 1 for 3, R, BB, K, SB
Seth Lancaster - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2 2B, RBI, K, SB
Carlos De La Cruz - 2 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K, CS
Ben Pelletier - 2 for 4, 2B, RBI, K
Juan Aparicio - 0 for 4

The BlueClaws combined for 10 hits and Lehman/Gonell shut down Hagerstown for a nice win. Jonathan Guzman has been hitting the ball well (.289 in his last 10 games), as well as Seth Lancaster (.294 in last 10). Cole Stobbe stole home in the game for his 10th SB of the season.

Williamsport 4, Auburn 0

Erik Miller - 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K, WP, HBP, 4 GB, 1 FB
Junior Tejada - 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 GB, 1 FB
DJ Stewart - 1 for 5, 2 RBI
Nate Fassnacht - 1 for 4, R, BB, 3 K
Bryson Stott - 2 for 5, R, K, SB
Hunter Hearn - 1 for 5, 2B, 2 RBI, K
Jake Holmes - 1 for 3, BB, K
Herbert Iser - 1 for 3, R, BB
Nicolas Torres - 1 for 2, R, BB
Mitchell Edwards - 0 for 4, K
Corbin Williams - 0 for 3, K, HBP

While Bryson Stott has gotten most of the 2019 draft class spotlight, Erik Miller has been quietly dealing since making his professional debut. Across two-levels Miller has put up: 19.2 IP, 12 H, 3 ER, 4 HBP, 8 BB, 33 K and is sporting a 1.08 ERA in Williamsport. He is currently being kept around 60ish pitches per start. Speaking of Stott, he extended his hitting streak to 7 games and stole his 2nd base of the season last night. The rookie is slashing .315/.392/.586 with 6 HR in 111 AB across two-levels.
