Phillies Minor League Roundup for 8/21/19

Syracuse 2, Lehigh Valley 1

Enyel De Los Santos - 6 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 8 GB, 3 FB
Maikel Franco - 1 for 3, 2B, RBI, BB
Deivy Grullon - 2 for 3, K, HBP
Austin Listi - 1 for 4, 2B, K
Malquin Canelo - 0 for 3, BB

Despite out-hitting Syracuse 8-5, LHV still falls. Tyler Gilbert gave up the go-ahead run in the top of the 7th inning. EDLS remains an intriguing arm that likely winds up with a bullpen role in the future. However, he still needs to figure out how to command his pitches if he is going to succeed at all.

Reading, Portland (canceled due to rain)

Clearwater 2, St. Lucie 0

Anthony Requena - 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 3 GB, 5 FB
Jhailyn Ortiz - 0 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Matt Vierling - 1 for 4, CS
Rafael Marchan - 1 for 4, 2B

Anthony Requena breaks out of his mini-slump with one of his more impressive starts of the season. It was the first time he hadn’t given up a run in a start since his second appearance of the season. First baseman Luke Miller wound up providing the only run that mattered, a 1-out RBI in the 6th inning.

Lakewood 12, Lexington 2

Jhordany Mezquita - 4 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 K, HR, 1 GB, 5 FB
Dominic Pipkin - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, BB, K, 2 WP
Jonathan Guzman - 1 for 5, R, RBI, BB, K, SB
Malvin Matos - 2 for 5, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K
Carlos De La Cruz - 2 for 6, R, RBI, 3 K
Cole Stobbe - 1 for 6, R, K
Luis Garcia - 1 for 4, 2 R, RBI, BB, K
Ben Pelletier - 2 for 4, 2 HR, 5 RBI, BB, K
Seth Lancaster - 0 for 5, 4 K
Juan Aparicio - 1 for 4, 2 R

Always weird to see this team score double-digit runs. The offense was carried by the long-ball last night with Ben Pelletier hitting 2-run and 3-run homers (11th and 12th of the season. Malvin Matos added a 2-run shot of his own, his 10th. Ben Pelletier has had a rought season, but has been hitting the ball well as of late with a .314 average in his last 10 games. Dominic Pipkin curiously didn’t go multiple innings last night despite being the piggyback starter with Mezquita.

NY-Penn Blue All-Stars 7, NY-Penn Red All-Stars 4

Bryson Stott - 0 for 1, R, BB, K (fielding error)
Corbin Williams - 0 for 3, 2 K
Logan O’Hoppe - 0 for 1
Logan Simmons - 1 for 2, RBI (fielding error)
