Syracuse 8, Lehigh Valley 2 (GM1 of DH, continuation of suspended 8/22)
Syracuse 3, Lehigh Valley 1 (GM2 of DH, 7 innings)
JoJo Romero - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, K, HBP
Seth McGarry - 4 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, WP, 2 HBP, 2 GB, 5 FB
Dan Straily - 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, HR, 3 GB, 7 FB
Maikel Franco - 0 for 1, K
Deivy Grullon - 0 for 4, K
Austin Listi - 1 for 7, 3 K
Malquin Canelo - 1 for 6, K, HBP
Nick Williams - 1 for 6, BB, K (outfield assist, 3B)
Not a great doubleheader for Lehigh Valley, whose offense went completely flat through the long day. Not much to discuss here, though Connor Brogdon continues to excel since being promoted to AAA. The 24 year old RP has a 3.49 ERA with 39 strikeouts to 12 walks in 28.1 innings.
Reading 4, Bowie 2
Connor Seabold - 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 6 K, 3 GB, 6 FB
Josh Stephen - 0 for 4, 2 K
Alec Bohm - 2 for 4, R, 2B
Darick Hall - 1 for 3, R, 2B, BB, K
Cornelius Randolph - 2 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, K
Nick Maton - 1 for 4, 2 K
Connor Seabold is getting more interesting by the start. The 23 year old righty has a 2.18 ERA and a 31:9 K/BB through 33 IP this season. He got off to a very late start to the season with an injury, but is throwing mid-90’s fastballs. Assuming he gets sent to the Arizona Fall League and has a strong showing, he could move up the prospect rankings fairly significantly. Cornelius Randolph continues to tear it up since coming off the IL with his 9th HR of the season and 3rd in as many games. Mickey Moniak remains out of the lineup and hasn’t played since August 23.
Clearwater 5, Lakeland 1
Edubray Ramos - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, K
Andrew Brown - 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 5 K, HBP, 12 GB, 1 FB
Simon Muzziotti - 1 for 4, R, BB, K
Jhailyn Ortiz - 1 for 4, R, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 K
Matt Vierling - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Rafael Marchan - 1 for 2, RBI, BB
Daniel Brito - 0 for 3, BB, K
Edubray Ramos rehab alert. I think we all forget how dang good he was in the first half of 2018 before he hit the IL for a month. The stuff was brilliant and was able to fool hitters with his breaking pitches. I’m not giving up on him yet and would love to see if he could return to that version of himself. Andrew Brown with back-to-back 6 inning, 1 run starts which is very good for him (6.17 ERA). Jhailyn Ortiz provided the biggest blow, a two-run double in the 3rd inning to give the Threshers a 2-0 lead.
Lakewood 5, Delmarva 4
Jhordany Mezquita - 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 4 K, 6 GB, 2 FB
Rafi Gonell - 2.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 K, 4 GB, 2 FB
Jonathan Guzman - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Malvin Matos - 2 for 4, R, SB
Luis Garcia - 1 for 3, R, BB, 2 K
Cole Stobbe - 2 for 4, 2 R, 2 K (fielding error)
Abrahan Gutierrez - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Carlos De La Cruz - 2 for 4, HR, 3 RBI, K
McCarthy Tatum - 1 for 4, K
Juan Aparicio - 0 for 3, 2 K
A win that got a little dicey towards the end. Lakewood held a 5-0 lead, but saw Delmarva come back within 1 run in the top of the 9th. Jhordany Mezquita got his 4th win of the season and needed only 52 pitches to get through 5 innings. The very tall man, Carlos De La Cruz, hit his 7th dinger of the season and Malvin Matos stole his 18th base.
Batavia 10, Williamsport 0
Chris Micheles - 0.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, HBP
Adam Leverett - 1.2 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 3 K, 1 GB, 3 FB
Jake Holmes - 1 for 4, K
Johan Rojas - 1 for 4, 2B, SB
Kendall Simmons - 1 for 3, BB, K (throwing error)
Hunter Hearn - 0 for 2, 2 BB, K, SB
Nate Fassnacht - 0 for 3, BB, 2 K
Mitchell Edwards - 0 for 4, 2 K
Nicolas Torres - 0 for 4, 2 K
Corbin Williams - 0 for 4, 2 K
You may not see a worst start from a pitcher this season from what we got from Chris Micheles last night. The offense wasn’t great either, combining for just 5 hits and striking out 11 times. Johan Rojas stole his 10th base. Logan O’Hoppe left an August 22 game and has not played since.
