In one of our biggest celebrations of the Philadelphia Phillies, every week the members of The Good Phight will be issuing one of baseball’s greatest achievements to date: The Good Phil of the Week Award. One MLB player and one MiLB player will receive the award each week and will be able to boast to their teammates that they are, in fact, a Good Phil.
Major League Good Phil of the Week: Hector Neris
Lost in the ridiculousness of the injury-ridden Phillies’ 2019 bullpen has been an under-rated and under-appreciated campaign by Hector Neris. In 64 appearances this season he has a career-high 26 saves (8th best in the majors). In 64.1 innings pitched he’s allowed 21 earned runs while striking out 84.
Neris appeared in three games this week, collecting two saves. He struck out four over 3.1 innings. In his one loss, he allowed a sacrifice fly in the ninth inning to break a tie game against the Red Sox.
Other Good Phils Receiving Votes:
Adam Haseley, Maikel Franco
