The good news or the bad news first?
The good news? Zack Wheeler was really good in this game. He bounced back from his disappointing Phillies debut. Jay Bruce continued his torrid start in place of the still rehabbing Andrew McCutchen.
The bad news? The rest of it.

Some disappointing trends are emerging that you can see. Bryce Harper is struggling to start the season. Didi Gregorius is also getting off to a slow start as well, striking out a lot and not getting walks.
But it’s also difficult to hit someone like deGrom when he’s on the bump.

No one was any good against Jacob deGrom save Bruce. deGrom dominated the Phillies’ lineup over 8 2⁄3 innings, allowing only two runs during his outing. He was the Cy Young version that teams have trouble with when he’s on.
Jose Alvarez blew the save with a terrible seventh inning. Two walks, two hits, all capped off by a bases loaded triple by Rene Rivera of all people. He’s struggling.
The team heads home for its home opener tomorrow against the Brewers. Jake Arrieta has the honors this year.
