August

Remember, the top two in each division automatically qualify for the playoffs. After that, it’s the next two overall. Right now, the two wildcards are residing pretty confidently in the West. Matt, in the Central, is 6 GB of WC2 as we enter the final regular season month. Technically, no one has been eliminated yet, but that’s about to change.
The next post will have each of the final four-ish weeks broken out, so you won’t be spoiled unless you skip ahead (you impatient bugger, you). Then, we go playoffing.
Hitter of the Month: 2009 Chase Utley (John)
.393/.464/.844, 16 HR, 28 RBI
Utley is surging to the top of the value leaderboards, and almost single-handedly propelling John’s team to a comfortable division lead
Pitcher of the Month: 2017 Aaron Nola (David)
6 GS, 47 IP, 63 K, 7 BB, 1.34 ERA
Nola was not the one to rack up the world’s first 20 K game (see below), but he had the best overall stretch in August nonetheless.
