With the winter hibernation of MLB and the lack of content, figured I would revisit the Phillies offseason post lockout.

Trades to think about
· Royals acquire SP Gibson for OF Benintendi and IF Mondesi
o Would be contingent on finding a SP to replace Gibson innings but would provide a LH bat for Long to work with (could see a Schwarber-esqe project for him) and a dynamic IF who plays an above avg SS, 2nd and 3rd.
· Blue Jays acquire SS Gregorious for OF Grichuk
o If the Phillies are desperate to get Didi off the books this would be the type of trade it would take. Grichuk isn’t a bad OF but he is overpaid and has 2 yrs vs 1 for Didi.
· Dodgers acquire 1st Hoskins for SP Ferguson and 2nd Lux
· Rays acquire 1st Hoskins Hoskins and OF prospect Wilson for SP Glasnow, SP McKay, OF Kiermaier
o I know it may not be popular but the Phillies need to decide soon what they want to do with Hoskins. His salary is going to continue to increase in arbitration which will decrease his trade value going forward. If he isn’t part of the long term plan (ie they are planning to move Bohm to 1st) they may want to look and see what a team might give up for him.
Trades I went with: All have been deemed fair trades by the baseballtradevalues.com algorithm

What I like about the team is the character guys that are brought in the fan base can get behind. You have local kid Chas McCormick who I would hope at some point takes control of the starting CF spot. He is from West Chester and a 21st round pick, was never a top prospect but worked his way into the starting lineup for the Astros. He earned everything at every level and you have to like that. You have Trey Mancini who put on a show in the Home Run Derby. He is already a great story with from his return from cancer and grew even more admiration when he was hurt last year and told the brass that cancer was the only thing to put him on the IL and he wanted to keep it that way. Player the rest of the year despite some injuries. Austin Adams has a sick slider and brings some Mitch Williams excitement to the mound (24 hit batters last year MLB record but also only 28 hits and 76 Ks in 53 innings). Joc Petterson and Gavin Lux bring in some playoff experience but the biggest thing with these acquisitions is depth and flexibility.
You have capable 1st basemen in Mancini, Bohm, Petterson, Vierling, and Carmargo. I have a feeling Didi could find his way to a 1st baseman’s mitt too.
You have great options at second in Lux and Kim but also Camargo, Didi, and Maton too
There’s an actual SS in Kim with Stott waiting in the wings. There is also Lux, Maton, and Didi if desperate
And you could keep Bohm at third but there are in house options in Carmargo, Kim, and Lux or possibly Didi or Vierling
RF is set but you have a capable CF in Petterson and McCormick with Vierling and Moniak ready as well. There is Suzuki in LF but if he proves not ready you have Mancini as an offense first option.
This also enables Stott to develop, doesn’t necessitate a rush to the opening day roster for Vierling, Moniak, or Maton. You also don’t need Kingery on the MLB roster. 1 will earn a spot but the rest can get regular at bats in AAA.
In the trades you pick up depth pitching pieces in Dinelson Lamet, Caleb Ferguson, and Adrian Morejon. Ferguson missed 2021 due to Tommy John and reports say he may be ready to pitch at the beginning of 22 but there is no need to rush him and he could be eased back in with a job in the pen. Morejon is still recovering from Tommy John so he would not be in the mix 2022 but could easily take a rotation spot in 23 when Efflin and Gibson are FA. Lamet in the meantime could be a place holder for Efflin. If he pitches like he did in 2020 then Efflin could help the bullpen like someone on here suggested a while ago. If Lamet struggles or more likely, gets hurt you have Efflin coming back and have Crouse would could step up. Again these moves provide depth, which this team has not had. You still have pen arms in Kent Emanuel, Y. Lopez, S Moss, Ryan Sherriff, and the spring training invites of Rosenthal, Kela, Junis, and Chatwood. That would be a lot of depth and supplement the top end talent.
