The Phillies have lost the first three games of this series, and now face uber-pitcher Jacob deGrom as they try to avoid a sweep.
Nice.
Still, the Mets are 36-42 in deGrom’s starts since 2018 (and below .500 even further back), including 0-2 in his first two starts of the season.
Arguably that means they’re due to win one (though not statistically).
Either way, their lineup is certainly better this year than in much of that recent period.
Zach Eflin gets the start for the Phillies. Mickey Moniak makes his season debut after being called up yesterday, and his first career start in center field.
Matt Joyce is in LF for Andrew McCutchen, and leads off. You may remember Matt from such shows as “.370 OBP vs. righties in 2020”, and “.410 vs. righties in 2019”, so there’s some rationale to having him near the top.
