VV + Coors = Low Expectations

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at New York Mets Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

With starter Matt Moore on the injured list due to Covid-19 protocols, Vince Velasquez makes his first start of 2021.

As Smarty mentioned in his series preview, Velasquez hasn’t been awful at Coors. In one start (2018) he got hit around for 6 runs in 3 23 innings. In each of his other three starts there, he allowed 2 runs while lasting between 5 and 6 innings.

Righty German Marquez takes the mound for Colorado, and the Phillies will face him with this lineup. Didi Gregorius returns and bats 5th, but with Jean Segura still out Brad Miller fills in at second base.

For the Rockies, Ryan McMahon moves over from second base to fill in for Josh Fuentes at third. Fuentes is the cousin of Nolan Arenado, and is off to a rough start hitting .179 with 0 walks in 56 PAs.

Believe it or not that is not the highest number of PAs this year without a walk, that honor belonging to Jackie Bradley Jr. with 69.
