Luis Garcia continues to swing a hot bat.

Scranton/WB 10, Lehigh Valley 2

Adonis Medina - 5 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, HR, 5 GB, 2 FB
Scott Kingery - 0 for 3, RBI, 3 K
Mickey Moniak - 1 for 3, RBI, 2 BB, K (fielding error)
Rafael Marchan - 1 for 4, K

This was a bad game and the second poor start in a row by Medina. Mickey Moniak had an alright game I guess. Let’s turn the page on this one.

Somerset 5, Reading 4 (F/10)

Taylor Lehman - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 4 K, 5 GB, 3 FB
Mark Appel - 2.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, 4 K
Daniel Brito - 1 for 4, 2 K
Bryson Stott - 0 for 2, RBI, 2 BB
Jorge Bonifacio - 0 for 4, R, BB, 2 K
Nick Matera - 2 for 4, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K

Reading loses this one after being up 4-0 following the top of the 7th. Somerset would score 2 runs each in the bottom of the 7th and 9th to tie the game. They would eventually win with a walk-off in the bottom of the 10th. Taylor Lehman has pitched well for Reading this year (3.52 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 15.1 innings), but at 25 he is a bit old for the league. Mark Appel, while a fun story, has struggled mightily this year which should probably be expected given he hasn’t pitched in over a year. Bryson Stott is held hitless again and Nick Matera mashed his 4th homer of the season.

Jersey Shore 4, Brooklyn 1

Adam Leverett - 3.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 3 K, 2 GB, 3 FB
Jhordany Mezquita - 3 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 4 BB, K, 5 GB, 2 FB
Hunter Markwardt - 1 for 4, R, K
Jonathan Guzman - 0 for 3, RBI, K
Jhailyn Ortiz - 2 for 4, HR, 2 RBI
Nate Fassnacht - 1 for 2, R, BB, K, SB

The 22 year old righty Adam Leverett has been dominant this season with a 0.55 ERA with 17 strikeouts to 5 walks in 16.1 innings. Jhailyn Ortiz reminding you that he is still sort of an interesting prospect with his 3rd homer of the season. The 22 year old is slashing .247/.333/.376 in the early going.

Clearwater 8, Daytona 2

Cristian Hernandez - 5 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 K, WP, 5 GB, 5 FB
Fernando Lozano - 3.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 6 K, 6 GB, 2 FB
Luis Garcia - 2 for 5, 3 RBI, BB, K (throwing error)
Johan Rojas - 0 for 5, RBI, BB, K (fielding error)
Abrahan Gutierrez - 0 for 3, 2 BB
Rixon Wingrove - 1 for 4, R, BB, 3 K
Juan Aparicio - 1 for 4, 2 R, BB
Baron Radcliff - 0 for 1, 3 R, 4 BB, K
Carlos De La Cruz - 0 for 5, 3 K
Nicolas Torres - 0 for 2, R, RBI, 3 BB
Edgar Made - 0 for 1, R, RBI, 3 BB

What a crazy game. Thresher hitters walk 16(!!!) times in this to just 9 strikeouts, yet Daytona hitters did not pick up a single free-pass at the plate. You aren’t going to see that often. Cristian Hernandez continues to be a revelation. The 20 year old righty has a 2.01 ERA with 27 strikeouts to just 3 walks in 22.1 innings. I know its early, but he might not be long for Clearwater much longer. Meanwhile, Luis Garcia is looking very much like the top prospect we envisioned him as a year ago with a .995 OPS in his last 9 games. Sadly, the equally regarded Johan Rojas is struggling something fierce with a season slash of .184/.231/.281 with 24 strikeouts to 5 walks in 114 at-bats.
