Phillies MLR 7/27/21: Jhailyn Ortiz hits another HR and is the only highlight from last night

Seriously, it was a bad one for the Phillies farm.

Rochester 5, Lehigh Valley 3

Adonis Medina - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 K, 0 GB, 2 FB
Mark Appel - 3 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, K, WP, HBP, 4 GB, 2 FB
Jorge Bonifacio - 1 for 3, R, 2B, BB
Nick Maton - 0 for 1, R, 2 BB, HBP
Matt Vierling - 1 for 4, R, RBI, 2 K
Daniel Brito - 1 for 4, RBI, 2 K
Rodolfo Duran - 0 for 4, K

Adonis Medina is off the IL and getting back up to speed. Mark Appel came on in relief of Medina and did what Appel often does (see: not good things). Outside of their 3-run 7th inning, the offense couldn’t really muster up much. They had just one extra-base hit and left 6 on base. Rodolfo Duran made his AAA debut as Rafael Marchan was sent down to AA.

Somerset 5, Reading 4 (F/10)

Josh Hendrickson - 4.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, BB, 3 K, HR, HBP, 3 GB, 8 FB (throwing error)
Arquimedes Gamboa - 0 for 4, BB, 4 K
Rafael Marchan - 1 for 5, R, 2B, K
Bryson Stott - 1 for 4, BB, K
Luke Miller - 2 for 4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 K

Josh Hendrickson has become quite hitting of late, giving up 12 earned runs in his last 3 starts (15.2 IP). Thankfully, the Fightin’s tied the game in the bottom of the 9th to force extras via a Logan Landon RBI single. Sadly, Brian Marconi would come on in relief in the 10th and give up the walk-off run. Luke Miller hit his 11th HR, if you are into that.

Brooklyn 14, Jersey Shore 5

Jonathan Hughes - 4.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 2 HR, WP, HBP, 7 GB, 1 FB
Logan O’Hoppe - 1 for 4
Jhailyn Ortiz - 2 for 4, 2B, HR, K (outfield assist, 2B)
DJ Stewart - 1 for 4, 3 K
Jonathan Guzman - 2 for 3, R, BB, K (throwing error)

The BlueClaws stood no chance in this one with Hughes and Aidan Anderson giving up 12 earned runs in 5.2 innings of work. The lone offensive highlight was once again Jhailyn Ortiz, mashing his 19th HR. The 22 year old RF has homered in 4 straight games and has seen his season line move to .264/.360/.531 with 28 walks to 81 strikeouts in 254 at-bats.

Fort Myers 7, Clearwater 1

Fernando Lozano - 5 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 2 HR, 7 GB, 3 FB
Rodolfo Sanchez - 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, BB, 4 K, 2 HBP, 4 GB, 2 FB
Casey Martin - 0 for 4
Jadiel Sanchez - 1 for 4, R, K
Nicolas Torres - 1 for 4
Rixon Wingrove - 0 for 4, 2 K
Jose Tortolero - 1 for 4
Micah Yonamine - 0 for 3, BB, K
Marcus Lee Sang - 0 for 3, K
Ben Pelletier - 0 for 3, 2 K (fielding error and outfield assist, 2B)
Kervin Pichardo - 0 for 3, 3 K (throwing error)

It has usually been the opposite results for Lozano (2.61 ERA) and Sanchez (5.27) this season. Regardless, the offense crapped out behind them collecting only 3 hits in the entire game. Casey Martin was demoted back to Clearwater after a disappointing stint with Jersey Shore.
