Phillies MLR 8/4/21: Cristopher Sanchez deals in impressive victory for IronPigs

Clearwater remains in COVID lockdown as they see their season waste away.

Lehigh Valley 7, Buffalo 1

Cristopher Sanchez - 4 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 6 K, 4 GB, 2 FB
Nick Maton - 0 for 4, R, BB, 2 K
Jorge Bonifacio - 1 for 4, 2B, 3 RBI, BB
Mickey Moniak - 0 for 4, R, BB
Matt Vierling - 2 for 4, R, RBI, BB, SB
Rodolfo Duran - 1 for 3, R, BB, K

An impressive start for Sanchez who has been yanked around a bit between LHV and the big club. His 4 inning last night were his most in an appearance since June 19th. In AAA this season he has a 4.04 ERA with 50 strikeouts to 26 walks in 42.1 innings. Jorge Bonifacio has continued his torrid pace at the plate since being promoted to the IronPigs. Since joining the club he is slashing .343/.415/.657 with 2 homeruns in 35 at-bats. If there is an injury to one of the utility bats with the Phillies, Bonifacio would make a lot of sense to give a shot to.

Reading 4, Richmond 1

Jack Perkins - 5.2 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, BB, 3 BB, 3 K, HR, 8 GB, 4 FB
Arquimedes Gamboa - 1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K
Jhailyn Ortiz - 1 for 4, RBI, K
Bryson Stott - 1 for 4, R, K

Jack Perkins earns his 3rd win of the season and saw his ERA come down to a season-low 3.59. Combined with 3.1 inning of shutout relief from Zack Warren and Brian Marconi, this was a relatively easy win for the Fightin’s. The offense scattered 8 hits over 9 innings with just 6 combined strikeouts.

Jersey Shore 2, Aberdeen 1

Jhordany Mezquita - 4.2 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 7 K, WP, 3 GB, 4 FB
Nate Fassnacht - 1 for 4, R, 2 K
Logan O’Hoppe - 1 for 4, 2B (passed ball)
McCarthy Tatum - 1 for 3, K
DJ Stewart - 0 for 3, K
Vito Friscia - 0 for 3, 2 K
Jonathan Guzman - 0 for 3, K
Herbert Iser - 2 for 3, R, 2B
Chris Cornelius - 1 for 3, RBI
Keaton Greenwalt - 0 for 3, K

Back-to-back impressive appearances now for Mezquita (9.1 IP, 9 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 14 K). Chris Cornelius delivered a 2-out single to score the eventual go-ahead run in the bottom of the 7th inning. In having fun with arbitrary end-points, Logan O’Hoppe in his last 27 games is slashing .288/.342/.490 with 5 homers and 5 walks to 11 strikeouts in 114 plate appearances.

Clearwater, Bradenton (ppd due to COVID outbreak, sigh)
