Gamethread 8/7: Mets at Phillies

Back at it after a thriller Friday night

MLB: New York Mets at Philadelphia Phillies Kyle Ross-USA TODAY Sports

The Mets and Phillies played a thrilling game last night that ultimately ended in the Phillies vaulting into first place. It’s been a long time coming, but somehow, some way they are back in first. This afternoon, the two teams meet again to see who will go to bed this evening in first place. Either the Mets will reclaim their spot, or the Phillies will be guaranteed to end the series atop the division. It promises to be another good one.

Here are the lineups. For the Phillies:

The Phillies are going to try and do it today without two of their regulars. Rhys Hoskins is still sore and now he’s joined on the bench by Didi Gregorius, who is nursing a sore elbow after being hit by a pitch last night by Aaron Loup. We’ll have to see.

For the Mets:

The Mets will try and counter the southpaw Ranger Suarez by putting out a lineup full of right-handed hitters. How that pays off, we’ll find out, but if Dominic Smith isn’t in the lineup, I’m a happy guy.

It’s a 4:05 start today, so let’s talk about it.
