C.J. Cron? Really?

MLB: Philadelphia Phillies at Washington Nationals Scott Taetsch-USA TODAY Sports

Usually we don’t worry about player of the month honors, but C.J. Cron over Bryce Harper? Really?

Statistically, they were as similar as could be. Here are their August numbers:

Harper: .337/.455/.776, 10 HR, 25 RBI, 25 R, 209 wRC+
Cron: .387/.463/.828, 11 HR, 34 RBI, 18 R, 217 wRC+

It’s not as though Cron is undeserving, but using context, Harper has done all of this in the middle of a pennant race while Cron is playing out the string in Colorado. These types of honors usually go under the radar, but people around Philadelphia have been intently watching, and appreciating, how Harper has almost singlehandedly kept the offense afloat while the players around him crumble down. This latest run of seven runs or more games has lessened the need for Harper to produce....but he’s still be right in the middle of it all. There should be some kind of award for him, but alas, the league went with the guy with the higher batting average.

Again, it’s not that big of a deal, but it’s a little ridiculous.

On to the links.
