Bryson Stott, Mickey Moniak, Matt Vierling, and Derick Hall all need to step up. To be effective, all of them need to be patient when batting, not swing at pitches out of the strike zone, especially breaking balls, and be willing to shorten up and put the ball in play with two strikes. Munoz and Stubbs need to continue to contribute as well. The entire team needs to avoid being homer-happy. Swing for the fence on every pitch leads to flyouts, pop-ups, strikeouts, and double-play balls. The bullpen is much improved under Thomson, which is helping as well. What the Phillies do not need is to trade away young talent for a one-season player. With Thompson's guidance and good coaching, this team can still make the playoffs.
