Its January and I miss baseball so I came up with a challenge of sort for myself. Using BaseballTradeValues.com trade simulator- I set out to make 1 trade with every other team. To make it more interesting I wanted to put together an MLB Roster made up of 1 player from every other team. My full rules and a list of the trades will be listed below the roster, so you can criticize and tell me you can do it better without reading the full parameters:
C- Patrick Bailey (SF), Tyler Heineman (NYM)
1B- Paul Goldschmidt (STL), Josh Bell (MIA)
2B- Jordan Westburg (BAL), Nick Maton (DET)
SS-Carlos Correa (MIN), Andres Gimenez (CLE)
3B-Spencer Steer (CIN)
LF-Mike Trout (LAA), Alex Call (WAS)
CF-James Outman (LAD),
RF-Adolis Garcia (TEX), Eloy Jimenez (CHI)
DH-Rowdy Tellez (PIT)
SP- Gerrit Cole (NYY), Kevin Gausman (TOR), Merrill Kelly (ARI), Christian Javier (HOU), Javier Assad (CHC), Sean Newcomb (OAK)
RP- Devin Williams (MIL), AJ Minter (ATL), Kenley Jansen (BOS), Enyel De Los Santos (SD), Jose Lopez (Rays), Nick Mears (COL), Jackson Kowar (SEA), Dylan Coleman (KC)
-1 Trade with every team
-Only "Majors" classified players are eligible to trade- not emptying the farm for a super team.
-Trades must have other team coming out ahead or even, some of these trades are lopsided enough.
-Trades must be within 5 "value" according to the site- no just buying bad contracts- I didn't want to just take on every teams worst contract but build a super team. It should resemble the Phillies Cap/Team when done
Initial critique of the team:
The offense and pitching has plenty of star power. Trout, Garcia, Correa, and Goldschmidt form the core. Outman, Westburg, and Steer have plenty of upside. Jimenez or Bell are probably the DH. Think this team should have no issues scoring if they don't end up entirely on IR. And if they are, at least Tellez and Maton are fun to watch.
Pitching looks real good with Cole, Gausman and Kelly. Everyone in Philly knows how dominant Javier can be and he is the 4th. Meanwhile the Pen has only 1 shut down guy in Williams, but Minter, Jansen and De Los Santos are reliable.
I'm grouping them from "I can talk myself into it" to "Nobody is happy". Major for Major League trades usually happen on the fringes (like Soto for Maton and Vierling), When stars get traded it usually doesn't involve a major league player going back which makes the majority of trades improbable.
Group A: Fun and I can talk myself into believing it.
-Edmundo Sosa for Eloy Jimenez
Jimenez is a better player but has often been injured. Sosa would be a trade for a more reliable player
-Garret Stubbs, Jake Cave for Kenley Jansen
Jansen feels like a good replacement for the role Kimbrel had. Jansen is on the block and i cant imagine the price is too much.
-Alec Bohm for Devin Williams
Bohm is an everyday player who has really good contact skills. Devin is an elite closer but relief pitcher values are controversial.
-Mike Trout for Trea Turner, JT Realmuto, Taijun Walker
The Angels don't seem to want to bottom out. Getting an MVP candidate himself in Turner, All Star in JT, and a reliable starter would be a way to ease the pain.
-Sir'anthony Dominguez for Andes Gimenez
You are probably trading Dominguez at a low point, and Gimenez wouldn't have a starting spot in Philly but the value makes sense. A 15-25 best 2nd for an upside reliever?
Group B: not impactful, probably the most realistic trades.
-Luis Ortiz for Sean Newcomb
-Dylan Covey for Jackson Kowar
-Derick Hall for Nick Maton
-Cal Stevenson for Jose Lopez
-Simon Muzzotti for Tyler Heineman
-Weston Wilson for Nick Mears
-Rodolfo Castro for Rowdy Tellez
Group C: We are saying no.
-Jose Alvarado for Javier Assad
-Christopher Sanchez for Patrick Bailey
-Zach Wheeler and Orion Kerkering for James Outman
-Chrisitan Pache for Matt Duffy
-Bryce Harper for Jordan Westburg
-Kyle Schwarber for Josh Bell
-Rafael Marchan for Alex Call
Group D: They are saying no.
-Kody Clemens for Paul Goldschmidt
-Matt Straham for Christian Javier
-Johan Rojas and Jeff Hoffman for Gerrit Cole
-Brandon Marsh for Kevin Gausman
-McKinley Moore and Yunor Marte for AJ Minter
Group E: I think nobody is happy.
-Aaron Nola for Merrill Kelly
-Connor Brogden and Nick Castellanos for Carlos Correa
-Bryson Stott for Spencer Steer
-Gregory Soto for Enyel De Los Santos
-Ranger Suarez for Adolis Garcia
Overall it was fun and helped me get through the winter. Let me know what you think and what trades you like to do on Baseball Trade Sim, or if there is a different sim you prefer.
