About 2/3 through this article is the part about Dick Allen’s family learning he didn’t make it in the Hall of Fame. It’s tough to read. Allen belongs in Cooperstown. Here’s an excerpt from Nightengale’s article: Their optimism overflowed when Hall of Fame president Josh Rawitch announced that the Golden Days Era Committee had elected four new Hall of Famers. The last time the committee met in 2014, no one was elected. He began with Gil Hodges, and then Jim Kaat. Suddenly, the room went silent. It dawned on Carfagno that Rawitch was reading the names in alphabetical order. He leaned over to producer Mike Tollin and whispered, "I don’t think he’s getting in." Then came the news of Minnie Miñoso, and finally Tony Oliva. Richard Allen, Dick’s son, started weeping. So did Dick’s wife, Willa. His grandson. Nephew. Relatives. Friends. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.
This article takes a year by year look at Dick Allen's career and makes an argument for the slugger's election to the Hall of Fame. Allen will be eligible on the Golden Days Era Committee ballot this fall.
The Phillies won both the Harper (34.0% of votes)) and Machado (45.8%) polls.
All the SB Nation sites (including The Good Phight I assume) got together for this. The Phillies were able to sign Manny but Bryce Harper wound up on the Yankees. The Phillies also were able to trade for the Red Sox' Rick Porcello.
I wrote this on the Pirates blog. The Pirates are in town for this weekend only and it's a shame.
Bleed Cubbie Blue was discussing trades for pitcher Mike Montgomery who they consider expendable now that they signed Yu Darvish. In the last Felske Files, he was one of the pitchers mentioned as a possible trade target. The proposed offer in this FanPost is RHP Adonis Media and OF Adam Haseley. No Sixto, no Kingery. Deal or no deal?
I found this on the Minnesota Twins blog. They posted a bunch of FanPosts. Almost every list had the Yankees at the bottom. Maybe Cubs' fans should post their personal lists as either FanPosts to Bleed Cubbie Blue or as comments here.
The article lists Cesar Hernandez as a possible trade target. The problem is the Yankees need pitching as much as the Phillies do.
If the Angels get Ohtani that can help convince Mike Trout to stay and that would hurt the Phillies chances of getting him here. Pray Anaheim doesn't get him.
